By the end of this month I would officially been searching
for a job for 4 months. I know what you are thinking 4 months!!! And his already
complaining doesn’t he know people who have been looking for a job for years. Well
i do know people who looked for jobs for extended periods of time but i just thought
mine will be different. Call me naive but i have always felt people who didn’t have
jobs just didn’t go about looking for it in the right way. To be doubly sure i
got a job i did my masters immediately after my national youth service. I really
thought by now i’ll be half way into my saving money for Brazil 2014 world cup.
Anyway i only started this blog because I’m bored out of my mind i need
something to do.
This days for me are simple i have settled into my routine i
wake in the morning and check all the job seekers websites i have three
regulars jobgurusng.com, joblistnigeria.com and naijahotjobs.com they’ve all
been bookmarked on my phone and on my laptop. I don’t do jobberman.com. i
believe them to be extortionist and they repulse me. The routine is kind of the
same but this morning was different though
i had to write a 1000 character essay for the future of
telecommunication for my Ericsson job application. Aside that there is really
nothing else to apply for, I think entry level jobs are the hardest to find I
wonder how there are so many mid-level manager jobs and very little entry level
jobs.
So today there is no application to fill so spent the rest
of the day at home. If you are new to job seeking let me give you a few tips.
Tip 1. Have a pdf and
.doc copy of all your certificates on these three devices; your laptop,
your flash and your phone. Remember i didn’t say any of this 3. I mean all of
them.
Tip 2. Have a easily adaptable cover letter. Since it is
likely you would apply for jobs on opposite sides of the spectrum. (I mean it
is like you apply as a loan officer in a bank as an engineer in an IT firm). It
is best you have a cover letter that can adapt to the contrast.
Tip 3. Everything you have must be in your mail (save them
in draft).
Tip 4. If a company doesn’t put their names on a job advert don’t
bother applying. It most likely people who want you to sell Forever Living
Products and it’s like. If you are a
serious minded job seeker ignore it. Save yourself the stress.
Tip 5. Internet is now your best friend. Have it wherever
you go
